MSME Project Implementation Update – August 2025
Islamic Relief Worldwide – Iraq (IRW-Iraq)
As part of its continuous efforts to promote economic empowerment and entrepreneurial development, Islamic Relief Worldwide – Iraq (IRW-Iraq) achieved significant milestones in the MSME Project during August 2025. This month marked the successful completion of the beneficiary selection process and the launch of comprehensive business development training sessions for selected participants.
Program Overview
The MSME Project aims to strengthen local enterprises, improve business capacities, and foster sustainable livelihoods in Halabja Governorate. In August 2025, two major steps were accomplished:
- Final Selection of MSME Participants
- Business Development Training for Selected Entrepreneurs
Final Selection of MSME Participants
The verification and selection process of MSME applicants was successfully concluded this month. Out of the total pool of applicants, 72 business owners were confirmed as eligible participants. This rigorous process combined online application reviews and field-level verification to ensure transparency, fairness, and inclusivity.
Business Development Training Sessions
Immediately following the selection, IRW-Iraq launched structured Business Development Trainings designed to strengthen the entrepreneurial and managerial capacities of the 72 selected participants.
- Structure: The participants were divided into three groups, each consisting of 24 business owners.
- Duration: Each group is receiving five days of intensive training.
- Focus Areas: Training sessions cover key areas such as business growth strategies, financial management, market access, and sustainable development practices.
The training program commenced in early August and is scheduled to conclude on August 21, 2025, Insha’Allah.
Selection Committee for Business Funding
Upon completion of the training sessions, a formal Selection Committee convened to evaluate participant performance and business viability. Based on this assessment, 48 business owners selected to receive direct funding support from IRW-Iraq.
This funding will provide the necessary capital to expand their enterprises, generate employment, and contribute to long-term economic resilience in Halabja Governorate.
Implementation Framework
IRW-Iraq continues to uphold strong accountability mechanisms throughout the MSME Project. From initial verification to post-training evaluations, each phase is monitored to ensure resources are efficiently utilized and beneficiaries receive the guidance required for success.
Expected Impact
The August 2025 activities represent a crucial step in transitioning from participant selection to capacity building. By combining tailored training with targeted funding opportunities, IRW-Iraq is empowering small business owners to expand operations, create jobs, and contribute to sustainable local development.
This integrated approach not only equips entrepreneurs with knowledge and resources but also lays the groundwork for resilient and self-reliant communities across Halabja Governorate.
